ENSEMBLES

Concert Band

Concert Band is a year-long performing ensemble for 9th – 12th grade students with a performance-based curriculum designed to enhance one’s individual and ensemble skills. Performances will include but are not limited to a Fall Concert Program and a Winter Concert Program. Performances in the Spring will include but are not limited to a Pre-Performance Evaluation Concert, GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation, Spring Band Tour, and Spring Concert. All members of this band are highly encouraged to participate in Marching Band (see exclusions above), take private individual lessons, participate in Jazz Band, District Honor Band, and Solo and Small Group Performance Evaluation. Attendance is required for after school rehearsals and ALL PERFORMANCES. Band meets for the entire year. This class requires an audition for enrollment and at least one year of prior band experience. Grades 9-12. This is a four-year curriculum. This ensemble performs grade II and grade III literature.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is the premier performing ensemble at HarrisCounty High School consisting of the top wind and percussion players. Performances will include but are not limited to a Fall Concert Program and a Winter Concert Program. Performances in the Spring will include but are not limited to a Pre-Performance Evaluation Concert, GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation, Spring Band Tour, and Spring Concert. All members of this band are highly encouraged to and should participate in Marching Band (see exclusions above), take individual private lessons, participate in Jazz Band, District Honor Band, Small Group Performance Evaluation, and Governor’s Honors Program. Attendance is required for after school rehearsals and ALL PERFORMANCES. Band meets for the entire year. This class requires an audition for enrollment and at least one year of prior band experience. Grades 9-12. This ensemble performs grade IV and above literature.

The Sound of the County

The Marching Band is the most publicly prominent ensemble at Harris County High School and is responsible for fostering and developing audience appeal, entertainment, school pride and spirit and camaraderie among its’ members. The ensemble trains during a three-week band camp at the end of the summer (always the last three weeks of the summer), performs for all pep rallies, all home and away football games, competes at least twice a season, performs for parades including the Pine Mountain Christmas Parade, the St. Patricks’s Day Parade in Savannah, GA and travels extensively throughout the fall season. The ensemble is an intense commitment, rehearsing four days a week (MTWR), and designed to enhance love of music, musical discipline and the exhilaration of performance.

Tigress Colorguard and Winterguard

The Colorguard is a vibrant and essential element of the Harris County High School Marching Band. Members provide visual artistry for field shows at half-time for football games and for homecoming, as well as special events and individual performances.

Chamber Ensembles

Chamber Ensembles are small group ensembles, including percussion ensemble, flute choir, clarinet choir, saxophone choir, woodwind ensembles, brass ensemble, and mixed instrumentation ensembles. These ensembles will rehearse after school beginning in November and perform for various community functions as well as GMEA Solo and Small Ensemble Evaluation and a chamber recital. Any member of the band program may participate.
